VIETNAM WAR – COMBAT VETERAN
“Dr. Atil Narayan is a Master of Acupunture. He is very personable and friendly. He is always eager to answer all questions explaining every concern. I am a retired Master Sergeant of Airborne US Army Rangers, a Master Parachuist, combat veteran in Viet Nam, and 40-years of vigorous martial arts training. I put my body thru hell as a young man. I consider myself very lucky to have been assigned to Dr. Atil by the Veterans Choice Program. The VA sometimes treats patients with real severe pain issues like me like a number. Dr. Atil knows me by name and truly cares. I highly recommend him. He will help you, whether you suffer from severe pain like me or PTSD like so many of my fellow veterans. Believe me. It is more than well worth the try.”
“Learn the technique, abide the technique, dissolve the technique” – Bruce Lee. Our patient, Mr. Zambrana, a Vietnam War combat veteran who has studied the martial arts for nearly 40 years, shared an early version of Bruce Lee’s book, “Tao of Jeet Kune Do”. Both the martial arts and the healing arts share the philosophy that when the mind and body are in harmony there is peace. We are honored to serve heroes like Ray.
Gentle Acupuncture Care…and Much More
Acupuncture works as an all natural, non-pharmaceutical, method of healing various pain conditions. However, when it is combined with other modalities it can enhance healing. This is what makes us different than most clinics. Listed below is a brief description of other therapeutic modalities that we provide at no extra cost to veterans through the Veterans Choice Program.
Natural Therapies: Many patients receive multiple modalities
Acupuncture: Acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and/or micro-current are used to facilitate tissue healing, obtain myofascial release, and control pain.
Far Infrared Heat: Far Infrared heat is used to open up capillaries to promote local circulation, relax tight muscles, and to help facilitate pain relief.
Cupping: To reduce pain and tension, obtain myofascial release, and ameliorate inflammation. The multiple gold medal winner Michael Phelps popularized this technique in the 2016 Olympics.
Herbal Salve: Thick, rich, Chinese herbal salve/poultice, which looks like black peanut butter, containing over 15 herbs, is applied topically at inflammation site then bandaged to help reduce local pain and inflammation.
Gua Sha (Referred to as Rolfing or Coining in the West): Soft tissue manipulation technique to obtain myofascial release, break up scar tissue, and alleviate tense muscles.
Nutritional support*: We use pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements called nutraceuticals. With therapeutic grade supplements, prescribed to you by a licensed professional, you will heal from the inside while our treatments initiate healing from the outside. This dual approach produces better results. Herbal support is also key when inflammation is chronic and lodged deep within the body or when other health conditions contribute to slow recovery. *Nutritional supplements are often not covered by the Veterans Choice Program or throught TriWest. We provide complimentary herbal consultation. Feel free to inquire with your acupuncturist.
WORLD WAR II VETERAN
One of our most inspirational patients is 96-year-old Mr. Escoto. He is an American hero…one of the few surviving WWII veterans. He tried boogie boarding before turning 80 and attempted riding a Razor Scooter at the age of 90. Needless to say, his children were not pleased, although his great-grandchildren thought he was cool. He always has this handsome smile on his face. He is fresh and alive in every moment with a childlike curiosity for adventure. Natural Wonders Healthcare is privileged to provide natural healing to a living legend.
VETERANS CHOICE PROGRAM (VCP): Quality healthcare near you
The Veterans Access, Choice, Accountability Act (VACAA) of 2014 expands the number of options Veterans have for high quality, timely, care. The Veterans Choice Program (VCP) covers inpatient and outpatient specialty care, which include acupuncture when the local VA medical center (VAMC) cannot provide the services due to the following reasons:
- Lack of available specialists
- You are told by your local VA medical facility that you will need to wait more than 30 days for an appointment.
- Your residence is more than a 40 mile driving distance from the closest VA medical facility with a full time primary care physician
Natural Wonders Healthcare is accredited with Triwest and is a preferred provider of the Patient-Centered Community Care (PCCC) network and VCP programs of the US Veterans Administration.
Easy Access To Quality Care: Modern Acupuncture with traditional values
Veterans can receive quality acupuncture care through Triwest’s comprehensive
network of community-based, non-VA, medical professionals who meet strict VA quality standards. Natural Wonders Healthcare meets and exceeds these standards.
What To Do Next: Ask your VA doctor for an acupuncture referral
To use your Veteran’s Choice card for acupuncture care at Natural Wonders Healthcare, you must receive a referral for acupuncture from your VA doctor. First, discuss the natural pain relief benefits of acupuncture with your VA doctor. They will evaluate your health condition and verify your eligibility for the Veteran’s Choice program. The VA offers acupuncture treatments at their facilities. In order for you to be referred to Natural Wonders Healthcare for acupuncture at least one of the following must apply:
- You are told by your local VA medical facility that you will need to wait more than 30 days for an acupuncture appointment at a VA facility.
- Your residence is more than a 40 mile driving distance from the closest VA medical facility.
Once you are assessed and determined eligible for the Veterans Choice Program, the VA will issue the authorization for acupuncture to TriWest. You may call our office after obtaining your authorization to schedule your acupuncture appointment with us. TriWest may also call us on your behalf to schedule an initial appointment and facilitate your care at our clinic.
If you are a Veteran interested in acupuncture for natural pain relief please contact your VA doctor and ask them about a referral authorization for acupuncture.
We look forward to assisting you in your healing and take great honor in serving you.
